Cambarco is a village in the municipality of Cabezon de Liebana, (Cantabria, Spain). This village is located at 520 meters above sea level, and 3.8 kilometers of the municipal capital, Cabezon de Liebana in the old Valdeaniezo. Immersed in a landscape of mountains beech, oak, but also oaks and scrub, Cambarco and Church of San Andres de Cambarco, located at the entrance of the village was owned by individuals gradually gave way over to monastery Santa Mara de Piasca. This documentary source also reflects the influence on the villages of the valley donation exercised dominion of Libana, made by King Alfonso XI of Castile and Leon (1311-1350) to his son The Count Don Tello. Thus the independence of the ancestral of Aniezo, Stubborn, Cambarco, Pembes, Torices Perrozo and Don Tello and later his son, Juan Tellez occurs.
From the late Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, the lineage of the Mendoza, dukes of the Infantry from 1475, exercised his power in the area. This stately Control each year did not prevent the locals choose their rulers, except for residents of Piasca and Valderrodes Valley (comprising Buyezo, Lamedo, Perrozo, San Andrs and Torices), linked to the Benedictine monastery of Sahagun, whose Prior appointing ordinary mayor.
With the advent of the constitutional system, ending the feudal system, an independent council formed in the northern lands of the valley of Valdeprado. The first municipality that was instituted in 1822, was named Perrozo. In 1835, he took the name of its capital, Cabezon de Liebana. At first he joined the administrative area of Potes and later moved to San Vicente de la Barquera, where it remains.

Getting to the cave Shrine. This is the cave shrine of Cambarco (also in the town of Cabezon de Liebana). Dating from the late eighth and early ninth century. It is a small temple in the form of a Greek cross and dug into the rock. It is a construction drawing excavated strata. The walls are lined with stone. The plant has three apses with arches that separate them, arranged in a clover like shape. It is a Greek cross Byzantine style. It seems of late eighth or early ninth century. Quite a place to see!!!

This image makes me feel like I want to go up to the door and meet the people that live there...so inviting. I really like the way the two different openings relate to each other. Well done Diana!
