My spiritual faith, journey and beliefs are those that I hold extremely close to my heart, but I am very private about them. I rarely share them out loud or personally, I never preach to others, allowing those to hold their own beliefs, and never tell others what they should believe... it is my personal relationship with my "God, Lord, Christ"... etc...
.......
As I was making my THIRD driving trip across the country, always taking Highway 40 just because driving a 1000 miles through the state of Texas, while it may be beautiful, never feels like progress is being made, at least on Highway 40, you go through several states and of course get to see a lot from old Route 66.
.......
Nevertheless, on my previous trips I had always seen this cross right off of the highway, but had never stopped. Once in January 2009 because I was in an ice storm pulling a 17 foot Uhaul and my car, alone with 2 cats, and the other because I was just trying to get to California as fast as I could.
......
On this particular trip, in a 24 foot Budget truck with NO AC, my car attached to the back and my two cats, but with the company of my boyfriend Terry, making a very emotional move back to Charlotte, NC to live closer to my grand children and two of my children, leaving Terry and my California dream behind... (which I was fortunate to make a movie, one CA dream come true)... I asked Terry to pull off the highway and allow me a moment to pray, that the decision and the journey I was making was indeed the right decision, to to ask for guidance, and strength.
....
My camera equipment was packed and in the truck so all I had was my iphone to photograph this spectacular and moving sight. This cross ironically sits at the half way point (50 miles off) from where I left to where I was going. I stood at the base of the cross, looking high above me and just prayed and cried. I then walked towards the eastern path and took this picture with my iphone.... I will always have it with me to remind me of my prayers, to give me strength, and to just believe and to trust.

ABOUT THE CROSS:
Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ Ministries:
The Groom Cross is located between Interstate 40 and old Route 66 going west out of Groom, Texas. It was built by Steve Thomas of Pampa, Texas in 1995. It is visible for miles as you approach this panhandle town. Though it doesn't date back to the days of Route 66 it is an attraction that is definitely in the spirit of the old Mother Road. A 19-story cross located next to Interstate 40 (formerly U.S. Route 66) at Groom. This 190-foot (58 m) tall free-standing cross can be seen from twenty miles (32 km) away. Surrounding the base of the cross are life-sized statues of the Stations of the Cross.
.....
Recent additions to the area around the Groom Cross include a memorial in memory of the victims of abortion and a replica of Calvary, with steps leading to the crosses, and a replica of Christ's tomb. The Stations of the Cross were just completed and feature life-sized sculptures of the events leading to Christ's crucifixion. The Groom Cross is fast becoming a roadside pilgrimage site with the number of travelers visiting the site increasing exponentially.
......
Mr. Thomas, disgusted with the huge billboards advertising XXX pornography locations along I-40 wanted to make a public profession of faith along the Interstate. Originally he wanted to put up his own billboard with Bible verses but could never find the appropriate verse. Instead, inspired by a cross built by a rancher in Ballinger, Texas, Mr. Thomas knew that he would build a cross. Built on private property donated by Chris Britten to avoid legal issues with the ACLU at a height of 190 feet, the Groom Cross is reported as being the biggest cross in the northern hemisphere
......
The movie Leap of Faith was filmed on location near the site of the cross in Groom but the movie was filmed before the cross was built.
