Description
Irvine Spectrum Giant Ferris Wheel
.....................
Irvine, CA. It is Southern California, where there are more sunny days than cloudy. The "Giant Wheel", known best for its flashy evening light show.
................................
Standing 108 feet tall, weighing in at 70 tons and completed in October 2002, the Giant Wheel can be seen from either of the two major freeways that border the mall. It displays beautiful and colorful mosaic gondola, each named after one of many Spanish Andalusia regions.
..........................................
It was constructed in Italy and was shipped to the United States via the Panama Canal. Secondly, it weighs 140,000 lbs, has 12,500 lights, and stands 108 feet tall. The Giant Wheel rotates 3 times per ride. Points of visibility: Palos Verdes: 36 miles, Mt. Boldy: 41 miles, Santa Monica Mountains: 53 miles, Downtown Los Angeles: 40 miles, and Mt. Wilson: 44 miles.
.....................
For kids: The giant Ferris wheel and carousel. I smiled at a list of rules for kids of all ages posted prominently near the food court (No throwing things, no walking or standing in big groups that block the way and no unaccompanied minors after 10 p.m.)
